Drop in and meet your desired dog

Meeting an animal

All animals currently housed in our Lonsdale shelter are available to meet by appointment only. Please complete an application form on the animal’s profile page.

For our Whyalla and Port Lincoln shelters, we don’t take bookings, so you will be able to just turn up during our adoption times and we will arrange for one of our team to introduce you to the animal. If you are hoping to add a dog to your family, we will ask you to select one or two of us to meet, but we don’t allow browsing as it stresses us out and you don’t get to see us at our best.

Please bring along photo ID and proof of your current address.

For shelter open hours click here.

Bookings will be prioritised until Sunday 15 January.

Thanks to your feedback, bookings will not be needed from Monday 16 January and we will be welcoming walk-ins only.

On arrival, you will still be asked to select the dogs you wish to meet.

Ask questions about the dog

"Our dogs are all desexed, microchipped, flea treated and wormed, and each of them would make a lovely addition to your family. By adopting an animal from us, you’re contributing to a brighter future not just for this animal, but for all animals in South Australia."

Easy and thoughtful adoption process

Same day adoption

If you find your perfect match, you can give a dog a home that same day. (Occasionally your dog may need to stay a little longer for some medical treatment).

Informative staff who know dogs

The RSPCA team know and love the dogs in care and will make sure you have the right information to make a lasting match.

Post adoption support

A new furchild! An exciting time, but we understand it can be daunting. Rest assured we are here to support you and make sure everyone settles well into the new household.

We have placed 2,140 loving dogs in 2022

Is the dog not a fit in the end?

Find other dogs that are great with children, mild tempered, or compatible with other animals

We take 236 dogs off the streets monthly. We heal them, feed them and care for them.

But we cannot give them all the love they deserve. Rescue a dog from the RSPCA shelter.
